EatsDining Review Zagol Ethopian Restaurant
Brand new Ethiopian restaurant open in town, very good! Dirty hands are encouraged at Zagol, Reno’s own authentic Ethiopian restaurant. Zagol opened in November and is becoming a popular Reno restaurant. We visited Zagol on a snowy Sunday night and the restaurant had many patrons.
Dirty hands are encouraged at Zagol, Reno’s own authentic Ethiopian restaurant. Zagol opened in November and is becoming a popular Reno restaurant. We visited Zagol on a snowy Sunday night and the restaurant had many patrons. My guest and I were Ethiopian food virgins. We eyed the food of those sitting next to us and asked what they had. We decided on the meat combination, which includes your choice of three meat dishes and a house salad. The dishes were served with Injera, a traditional Ethiopian flatbread.
Our three choices were Zilzil Tibs, which consisted of long strips of tender beef seasoned with onion and rosemary; Key Wat, a beef stew cooked with a spicy chili pepper-based sauce; and Ye Doro Wat, chicken legs and a hard-boiled egg in a bold chili sauce. All dishes were spicy but had their own distinct flavor. Keep in mind that we are eating this food with our hands, we recommend you eat with your hands to take in the full experience. In the middle of our meal, we agreed we would return to Zagol soon. Zagol is on East Fourth Street, just east of the Wells Avenue bridge.
RP Tip: Zagol would make a great Valentine’s restaurant. Something is HOT about eating food with your hands and your significant other.
