Dorado Confections is a sweet addition to Airport Square on E. Plumb Lane near Harvard Way. Open for just over a year, this artisan chocolate store has already won Reno over. Owner Ken Kossoudji learned the delicate art of chocolate artistry from his father, and then went on to study the discipline in Paris.

Dorado Confections offers two different product lines of chocolate: American classic and the Signature D artisan line. The American Classics line includes American-style chocolate varieties, and the Signature D line is “European in style, much more about variety.” Kossoudji employs the French way of making chocolates, and judging from the sumptuous smells emanating from the back of the store, both he and the French share a marvelous secret. Between the Reno store and his shop in Grass Valley, California, Kossoudji estimates that he creates around twenty thousand pieces of chocolate every day. Each one is a tantalizing and visual work of art. From some of the exotic ingredients that he uses, it sounds like there’s a bit of culinary alchemy to being a chocolatier: Tahitian vanilla bean seeds and French lavender honey are two of the subtle, rare flavors that you can find in his extensive, mouth-watering menu.

Chocolate is an affordable luxury and a tasty way to tell someone that you care. According to Kossoudji, you can also tell them that you care about their health. For your cardiovascular system, “Chocolate is about the best thing you can do.” It’s also high in antioxidants and for some, a natural alternative to antidepressants. Now, you can find the modern incarnation of this ancient treat right here in town! Stop by and immerse yourself in Dorado’s world of gourmet confections, and try their espresso Vivace for a truly delectable desert experience.
