Downtown Starbucks Closing Good News for Local Business

It is no big secret that coffee franchise Starbucks has been going through a little trouble. Coming from the coffee mecca of America–Seattle Washington– and starting out as a local corner coffee shop, Starbucks grew into an international icon serving people from around the world. Recently, one of the Reno Starbucks locations on the corner of Sierra and First Streets announced that it’s closing their doors. This is a very positive step for the direction of local business, and the Reno community.

I credit Starbucks and the 70-hour work week for fostering the cultural craze surrounding coffee. Ten years ago, the words latte, mocha, espresso, were virtually unheard of. Now espresso based drinks are as individualistic as the person drinking the beverage. From Starbucks, coffee art, Barista competitions, and your favorite daily beverage was created. Coffee has expanded much like wine, becoming popular and tasteful for many occasions. The culture associated with coffee has branded cities, districts, and business all around the globe. There are Barista competitions all across the United States letting Barista’s showcase the transformation of coffee into art. All though Starbucks created much of the coffee culture we know today, it has been the local coffee shops that have transformed coffee into an art.
