Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center UNR

The Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, located on the UNR campus between the College of Education and the Joe Crowley Student Union, is the culmination of years of construction, and more than 75 million dollars in donated and state funds. The stunning red brick building joins the previously completed Student Union as the new center of campus. The 295,000 square foot facility brings together many of the once scattered library collections, as well as unique special collections, the Center for Basque Studies, and state-of-the-art media resources and IT support. The awe-inspiring architecture adds a stately beauty to the Land Grant Institution, and thoughtful landscaping and outdoor seating provide students with a relaxing study atmosphere. Inside, the @One ‘dynamic media lab’ raises the bar for technology access on campus, and the new study areas ensure that students have everything they need for academic success. The new facility offers a broader range of advanced software applications, more stations, and a variety of tech & support staff.

Other features include a 200-seat auditorium, coffee shop, and faculty/graduate reading and study areas. The most unique aspect of all is the Mathewson Automated Retrieval System (MARS), which stores less requested and older publications to be retrieved by cranes. The University of Nevada, Reno has once again expanded educational resources on campus, taking another step towards the high quality experience that the community demands.
