BeatsNightlife Music Review DJ Psilogod by Oliver X
Reno underground beatsmith Psilogod is on the leading edge of sonic innovation, with his synth-driven polyglot of death metal, industrial and psychedelic trance. His high-bpm perculations gyrate and pulsate, delivering a relentless blast of pure groove interspersed with tribal breaks and compressed acid waves of electro-pop.
The self-taught musician, still only twenty-four years old, is developing a wicked reputation for the kind of sweat-drenching marathons that move the masses. Though the Psilogod brand of dance music is not widely known here in the States, the PsyTrance sub-genre is popular throughout Europe, Australia and Japan.
We caught-up with the DJ at Reno’s Bliss nightclub, while he was cutting-up the dance floor in a full electroluminescent wire (EL Wire) light suit (with vibrating massage gloves sold separately).
Reno Passport: Who are your principle influences?
Psilogod: Nine-Inch-Nails has a huge influence on how I hear and create music. I also like Meshuggah, Infected Mushroom, Front Line Assembly and Shpongle.
Reno Passport: What kind of gear do you use to produce your sound?
Psilogod: I use Reason 4.0, Sonar 6.0, Ableton Live 7.0, Waldorf Snyths, Allen & Heath Mixers and a strong computer.
Reno Passport: Where can folks hear you perform?
Psilogod: My full show list is featured on my Myspace page. I’ll be at a secluded camp fest called Peaches on the Moon–being held at a secret location.
