Poi spinning workshop

What: Beginner and Intermediate level Poi spinning, taught by A_delle and Leilani of Axiom Elements.

This will be a fun and challenging class which teaches basic Poi technique. This is a great place to start if you’ve always wanted to dance with fire poi, glow sticks or flags.

During this workshop, students will explore:

Basic poi theory
1. understanding the planes around your body, orienting your body and your poi around/ within those planes.
2. the rhythm of the poi and counting the beats of the circles (i.e., same-time, split-time, counting in relation a referent)

Basic poi tricks such as:
1. the butterfly
2. directional turns
3. windmill
4. corkscrew
5. stalls
6. 3-beat weave
7. basic transitions

Who: Anyone interested in learning to spin poi, or those interested in improving their core skills

When: Dec 12th, 1-3pm
There is the potential to schedule ongoing workshops, depending on this class size and interest, so don’t hesitate!

Where: The Yogic Lounge, 100 N. Arlington Ave
Cost: $40 individual drop-in, $35 early registration and $32/pair (bring a friend~ EVERYONE knows SOMEONE who wants to learn!!!)
Early registration ends Dec 1.

Materials:

If you have practice poi, please bring them. I plan to have pairs of poi available to borrow and some sets for purchase as well ($10-15/set). Good practice poi can easily be made of cute socks (not too stretchy!) and tennis balls, or you can find fun selections to purchase from a few of my favorites!
