THE LEGENDS AT SPARKS MARINA BRINGS MUSIC TO THE STAGE ALL SUMMER LONG WITH FREE CONCERT SERIES

Free Summer Concert Series, Saturdays, 6 – 8 p.m. through August 29

To help celebrate its grand opening this summer, The Legends at Sparks Marina hosts a Free Summer Concert Series every Saturday evening from 6 – 8 p.m., through Aug. 29. Continuing this Saturday, June 27, The Legends outdoor areas host a variety of popular musical acts, with the highlight of it all being a free concert Aug. 1 from hit band Smash Mouth, famous for songs such as “Allstar,” “Walkin on the Sun” and “I’m a Believer,” followed by a fireworks show over the Sparks Marina.

“We really just want people to come out, have a good time and see what The Legends is all about,” said The Legends’ General Manager Dennis McGovern. “And our Free Summer Concert Series is a great way to do that. We encourage everyone to come and enjoy the atmosphere and the free music because the concert series is only the tip of the iceberg. We have hundreds of free events scheduled throughout the summer for everyone from families to college students and seniors. This summer, The Legends is going to be the place for free activities and entertainment.”

The following are bands scheduled to appear as part of The Legends at Sparks Marina’s Free Summer Concert Series:

June 27: The Fantods

A Reno-based trio, The Fantods present a variety of Americana-style music ranging from Hillbilly-Funk to more tightly arranged Country songs and high energy instrumental pieces. Formerly known as The Willies, The Fantods is comprised of locals Joe McKenna, David Newman and Ben Wilburn. www.TheFantods.com

July 4: Blueberry Love Machine

July 4th brings quickly-rising band Blueberry Love Machine to the stage during a day packed with free activities and events including shuttle service to and from John Ascuaga’s Nugget and the Sparks Marina. A soulful, funky, eclectic group of musicians, lyricists and instrumentalists, Blueberry Love Machine’s sound provides a little something for everyone. www.myspace.com/BlueberryLoveMachine

July 18: The Stately Gentlemen

This four-year-old Reno-born band is known for its fun yet laid back Americana style. The Stately Gentlemen are a local staple, performing at venues throughout the area, injecting a little extra style into its homegrown sound. www.myspace.com/thestatelygentlemenofreno


July 25: Lavish Green

A staple in the northern Nevada music scene, Lavish Green has been entertaining audiences for more than a decade. On the heels of a fifth album release, the band has been featured on ESPN, ESPN2 and Fox Sports, among others, and promises to leave crowds pleased with its outstanding musicianship.

August 8: Drinking with Clowns

Blending Latin and funk rhythms sure to inspire dance, Drinking with Clowns is an eclectic Reno-based band known for its distinct sound and creative lyrics. August 15: Two Dog Mob and a Cat

Helping to beat the dog days of summer, Two Dog Mob and a Cat brings Rock N’ Roll to The Legends at Sparks Marina. With its classic Rock feel, this local band brings the talent of four area musicians to the stage. www.myspace.com/twodogmobandacat

August 29: Kleos

Kleos entertains audiences with its mellow rock sound as the band takes the stage for The Legends Summer Concert Series finale.

The Legends at Sparks Marina is currently under construction at 1555 E. Lincoln Way at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Sparks Blvd. in Sparks, Nev. Once complete, the site will contain a unique mix of entertainment venues, restaurants and retail offerings designed to attract a majority of visitors from out-of-state to northern Nevada. Its grand opening is scheduled for summer 2009 and the project is expected to attract more than 800,000 new tourists and generate approximately $600 million in taxable sales annually.
