The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) hosts the “Tribute-the 2009 Vision Gala” and honors Dr. David and Maryann Zucker and the Families and Children of JDRF May 9 at the Reno Ballroom.
Honoree Dr. David Zucker: Dr. David Zucker has been a leading pediatrician in Reno for 30 years, and Maryann was a founding board member of the Northern Nevada branch of JDRF. Both are active and longtime supporters of the community and two of their four children have Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. They know professionally and very personally the toll that this disease takes on families and children. Approximately 24 million Americans (including over 250,000 Nevadans), many of whom are children, suffer from type 1 diabetes. Heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness, loss of limbs and nerve damage are just some of the complications that are associated with diabetes, and it results in one death every three minutes. But there is hope… and that hope is finding a cure through research.
Tribute-the 2009 Vision Gala: All money raised throughout the evening, through table sales and sponsorship as well as live and silent auction, funds research to find a cure for diabetes. The Vision Gala is the largest fundraising dinner of its kind in Northern Nevada. Last year’s event sold out raising almost $1.56 million for critical research.
